About the artist

Deborah Colborn

Deborah Colborn is an artist living on Maryland’s Eastern Shore in St. Michaels and painting at her studio in Wittman, MD. She is a retired occupational therapist, having practiced with a range of ages and disabilities and in many locales: locally, in Washington, DC and in southern Africa.

The inspiration for her work comes primarily from the natural world or in abstracted concepts, reactions to music, photographic images and emotional insights. She describes her work as a “dance” between the canvas and what she experiences; the brush, the palate knife and color facilitate the process.

She primarily paints in oils and acrylics and has studied with local artists, including the late David Grafton and Joe Mayer and at the Art Academy in Easton, MD and Yellow Barn Studio, Glen Echo, MD and other out of town venues. Currently she is a member of the artist cooperative, Main Street Gallery in Cambridge, MD. Deborah paints and facilitates mixed media art with at risk children through Talbot Mentors. She has won several awards through juried shows in the local area.
